The middle school has 475 students in grades 5 through 8. Each grade level has its
own teachers and a dedicated section of the building. An outdoor amphitheater is
featured in the center courtyard and is used for class activities. School staff
implements an instructional program that contains a full range of nationally recognized
middle school concepts, such as teaming and interdisciplinary units. A variety of
honors programs in Math, Science, English, Reading, and Social Studies are available
to encourage academic excellence. High school credit is available in Math, Science
and Foreign Language to students in advanced courses. Pawling Central Middle School
students are top achievers in Dutchess County, as evidenced by the New York State
Assessments given in 8th grade. The majority of students meets or exceeds state
standards in Math, English, Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language as a result
of a dedicated and professional teaching staff. In addition to academics, students
at Pawling Central Middle School develop strong character traits and a desire to
give back to their community. Students are encouraged to participate in community
service projects. Many students volunteer in the community and in the schools throughout
the year. Extracurricular activities provide opportunities for students to develop
talents and explore various interests.
